INTRODUCTION
Since the Cebit2004 I was pretty critically about the X. In spite of this (or especially because of this) I write a complete review. Just as a help for a maybe-buyer to make decision finding easier.
However I already give my conclusion: I SOLD MY K700i AND MY N7610 BECAUSE OF THE SENDO X!
I point out that I reviewed a prerelease version of the X.
CONTENTS OF DELIVERY

BENCHMARK
Firmware X1.30.15.1 Release from 6-Jul-2004
Available RAM: 3980 - 4872 KB (variable)

Memory for data available: 30510 KB (I installed the Fileexplorer)

Symbian 6.1s with Series 60 1.2s and Sendo enhancements
Time to boot: 30 sec until entering the pin, after that additional 20 sec until fully usability.
The boottime was measured with a stopwatch. In my personal impression -in comparison to the 6600- does the X boot really fast. That's maybe because of the interactivity (startanimations) during startup.
DESIGN
The X is -as known- in black color with aluminium "extends". Because of that colorcombination it appears very noble and got immediately the attention from my wife an me (BTW: In those things it is even harder to impress my wife than me!). The workmanship [quality of how the phone was build] is compared to the Cevit-version [of the X] 100% better. However there are VERY small cracks in the "carbon"-area, but that is perhaps a problem of my prelease version of the X.
The keyboardlight is pretty unregulary. The light of the middle keys (2-5-8-0) is weak.
DISPLAY/MENU
I state the display as "good". There a 6 brightness-levels (off-dimmed-medium-bright-very bright-extra bright). I use "extra bright".
The X welcomes his proud user immediately with the Now!Screen. You can compare it with an application like "ActiveDesk". At a glance the Now!Screen provides informations for messages (In-Box, email), calls, birthdays, appointments and to-do's
The Now!Screen alone justifies the purchase of the X! Exactly this function I always missed for my P900 as well as for my Series60-Phones (7650,N-Gage,7610).
The keys of the X are small but nice to use. They have a good action point.
Because of it's dimensions, the thickness and the used materials, the X
feels really good in your hand, much better than a SX1, 6600 or 7610.
After a short familiarization with the navigationpad it is no problem to navigate through the Series60-menus. The possibility of "looping" in the menu (start with the first menupoint after exiting the last point) is a good idea.
CONNECTIVITY
The X has IR, datacable and Bluetooth. Unfortunately the X doesn't appear as an independent drive in the windows filemanager (like e.g. the N-GAGE). A connection to my Peacock Laptop worked immediately. Also a
connection to my other phones (T610, K700i, N7610, N-GAGE, P900).
How syncronisation works I will explain another day because I need
to install Outlook first.
ORGANIZER
Typical for Series60 there are to-do's and calendar with note-function.
It is possible to choose the view (week or month) and the weekbegin.
to-do's:
With "New to-do" I create a new to-do-item with date (when to-do) and
priority (low, normal, high). There is no date-automatic for to-do's
(e.g., all 14 days).
Calendar:
In the calendar I can change between week- and monthview. With "New item" I create a meeting, a note, or a "whole day"-event. An event is marked with a small arrow in the dayfield (see screenshot calendarview 5). The screenshoot calendarview 6 shows the events in the weekview. The small yellow symbol marks a note, the cake-symbol marks a whole-day-event (it seems Sendo used a cake-symbol for birthdays, but I also use it for other events)
Meeting: Subject, place, begin and endtime, begin and enddate, reminder,
repetition (no date-automatic, daily, weekly, every 2 weeks, monthly, yearly),
synchronisation (private, public, none).

repetition-mode, e.g., all 5 days, all 6 hours. It seems the X doesn't provide such a function. However there are pre-defined repetitions => daily, weekly, every 2 weeks, monthly, yearly]
SOFTWARE
Besides the usual Series60-suspects (calendar. messages, to-do's, and so on) the X provides a speaker-independent voicerecognition. Thanks to this great function you can select a contact only by saying the name or open an application by saying the (application)name. It works in quit surroundings really fine. This is a really great feature and doesn't
exist in other Series60-phones.
[Remark of translator: In the forum dragon-tmd and others describe the voice recognition in more datail => you activate the function by pressing the right-sided button at the X. Afterwards a (female) voice asks to say an instruction, for example you say "Voice dial" => now the voice asks for the name => you say the first- and the familyname and (if recognized correctly) the voice asks for "Which number to dial?" (in case you have
more than one for that contact) => you choose between private, mobile, and so on, and afterwards the number is dialed.
If the voice recognition doesn't recognize the name it lists all similar contacts and asks name by name (you choose simply by saying yes or no) which one you want.
Another instruction is "open " => it opens the application. This even works with applications which are installed later! There are lot of instructions to control the X with your voice only.
And the voice recognition works without recording your voice before (like other mobiles)... and even in your own language! Dragon-tmd described some smaller problems with recognizing some special german letters (Ü,Ö,Ä). But all in all it works in german and with german pronunciation. So I expect it also will work in spanish]
MP3-player:
The build in MP3-Player supports playlists and stereo (speakers and headset).
Adding tracks from different directories works fine. It is possible to
save MP3-files in different (own created, for example MP3) directories already during transmission from PC to the X. But it is not possible to rename a created playlist.
The soundquality of the build-in speakers is good. However the speakers cut off some tremble of the MP3- and Midifiles. I didn't notice a better bass- or tonequality because of the SoniX"-soundsystem [Translator: I think he means compared to other mobiles without the SoniX-system].
The soundqualtity of the supplied stereo-headset is excellent, the volume more than enough. Like always a "powerfull" bass is missing.
There are rumors the headset is manufactured by Sennheiser [Translator: Sennheiser is a well-known company for best-quality headsets]. However the cable from the right speaker of the headphone to the take-call-and-volume-control is to short. This control hangs in the height of my chin, a disturbing position while doing sports

There are no problems listening to MP3-files in background while working with other applications

RealOnePlayer (version 3.1.240 from 20-May-2003):
The RealOnePlayer is standard Series60. As expected it doesn't support movies with high bitrates (280 kbit). With my N-GAGE I still can see those movies in bad quality, the X does't even play them. Forwarding, rewinding, and so on, is possible, but also with the X there is no fullscreen-mode.
Games:
Build-in are "Sendo Data Flow Pinball" and "Funny Farmer". I don't like pinball but Funny Farmer is really good!
The X only supports MIDP 1.1, that means games like Syberian Strike I+II work without problems. They are represented only with a "Java symbol" in the menu (not the game icon from the manufactor). But unlike other Series60-phones you will find the icons in the (main)menu and not in e.g. "Programs" (like the N-GAGE).
CAMERA/VIDEO:
The built-in camera isn't really good (and I personally don't expect improvements with a firmwareupdate).
The pictures are taken in high,normal and low quality. There is also a flash and (first time) a "red eye reduction" and "pre flash-red eyes" function with one to 4 times preflash. The flash is a very bright white LED. One can save the pictures in the phonememory or in the memorycard.
The videocamera makes good (fluent) recordings if there is enough light, without enough light there are sometimes artefacts.
One can record videos in low, medium and high quality and low or high framerate.
The resolution is typically Series60 and varies from 128*96 to 176*144.
The videofilesize is selectable between "10% of available memory" to "unlimited".
That means there are no 4 or 10 minutes limits.

COMPATIBILITY
First time using of applications already installed on my memorycard was very bad. NO application worked! I will pay more attention to this in future. However it should be clear that applications from other manufacturers will work after an update by the manufacturer.

SPEECHQUALITY/BATTERY POWER
Speechquality is much better compared to the 6600 and I think also better than the 7610. However it is not as good as with the 6230. Receiving is good

To battery power let me say only: The 1000 ma pays well. The battery works longer as with a 6600 or 7610. I recharged the battery over night (after testing the X for hours) and could work 8 hours INTENSIVELY (bluetooth, video, calls, MP3(2,5 hours)) with the X.
In the beginnig the batterypowerlevel works very incorrect (3 hours before the battery really was empty the X stated already "battery low"). However after a few days the user has about 30 minutes time left (after the first warning) until the battery is empty. The warning is repeated periodically (with sound and light).
By the way: When you get a call the keyboardlight flashs rhythmically.
NOW!SCREEN
The Now!Screen is THE eyecatcher of the X. Here I have the possibility to create own "areas" with for example links (to EVERY installed program) and plugins. In theory it is possible to by-pass completly the Series60-menu.I for example created the areas "free time"
and "multimedia". There I have links to the games and to the MP3-player and my grapic programs.
Really good is the personalizing with own backgroundpictures (for every area) and the 2 themes (colorcombinations). It is not possible to change the color of the softkeys.
Also it is NOT possible to switch off the Now!Screen.
DOCUMENT VIEWER
You can view a lot of documenttypes with the X. I tried Word, PDF, Excel and Powerpoint documents and it works good. However it is impossible to edit the documents (that's why it is a VIEWER).
What can I say??? ) All the waiting was worthwhile (or still is)!
The X is a fully developed phone with really good features. The camera and videoquality is not the best, there are better phones. If you need a phone with a good camera you shouldn't buy the X.
The MP3-quality is better in comparison to the SX1 and closely as good
as the N-GAGE (however the N-GAGE has a better bass and hardware DSP).
IN MY POINT OF VIEW: AT THIS TIME THE X IS THE BEST SERIES60 PHONE IN THE MARKET AND I
WILL NOT GIVE IT BACK!

INTRODUCCIÓN
Desde el Cebit2004 fui bastante crítico acerca del X. A pesar de ello (o especialmente a causa de ello) he escrito una review completa. Simplemente para que posibles compradores tengan una decisión más fácil.
Sin embargo ya doy mi conclusión: VENDÍ MI K700i Y MI N7610 A CAUSA DEL SENDO X!
Puntualizo que ya hice una review de una versión pre-salida del X.
CONTENIDOS DE LA CAJA

Tiempo de reinicio: 30 segundos hasta la entrada del pin, después de eso 20 segundos más para usabilidad completa.
El tiempo de reinicio se midió con un cronómetro. En mi opinión personal – en comparación con el 6600 – el X se reinicia realmente rápido. Quizás sea por la interactividad (animaciones de inicio) durante la puesta en marcha.
DISEÑO
El X es, como sabemos, de color negro con “extensiones” de aluminio. Al utilizar esa combinación de colores tiene apariencia elegante y atrajo la atención de mi esposa y mía (BTW: en esas cosas mi esposa es aún más difícil de convencer que yo!). Los acabados [la calidad de los materiales] comparados con la versión del Cebit es 100% mejor. Sin embargo hay unas MUY pequeñas grietas en el área color “carbon”, pero quizás sea problema de mi versión prelanzamiento.
La iluminación del teclado es bastante irregular. La luz de las teclas centrales (2-5-8-0) es débil.
PANTALLA/MENU
Califico la pantalla como “buena”. Hay 6 niveles de brillo off-oscuro-medio-brillante-muy brillante-extra brillante). Yo uso "extra brillante".
El X da la bienvenida a su orgulloso usuario imediatamente con la pantalla Now!. Puedes compararlo con una aplicación como “ActiveDesk”. De un vistazo proporciona información sobre mensajes (Bandeja de entrada, email), llamadas, cumpleaños, reuniones y cosas que hacer.
Solo la pantalla Now! ya justifica la compra del X! Exactamente esta función que siempre eché de menos para mi P900 y para mis móviles Series60 (7650, Ngage, 7610).
Las teclas del X son pequeñas pero cómodas de usar. Tienen un buen punto de acción.
A cause de sus dimensiones, el grosor y los materiales utilizados, el X se siente realmente bien en tu mano, mucho mejor que un Sx1, 6600 o 7610.
Tras una breve familiarización con el pad de navegación no hay problema para navegar a través de los menús Series60. La posibilidad de “dar la vuelta” en el menú (empezar otra vez con el principio del menú cuando pasas del final) es una buena idea.
CONECTIVIDAD
El X tiene IR, cable de datos y Bluetooth. Desgraciadamente el X no aparece como una unidad independiente en el explorador de windows (como por ej. la N-Gage). La conexión a mi Laptop Peacock funcionó inmediatamente. También la conexión con mis otros móviles (T610, K700i, N7610, N-GAGE, P900).
Cómo funciona la sincronización lo explicaré otro día porque antes tendría que instalar Outlook.
ORGANIZADOR
Típico para Series60, hay eventos y calendario con función de nota. Es posible elegir la vista (semana o mes) y el día de inicio de la semana.
Eventos [“cosas que hacer”]
Con “Nuevo evento” creo un nuevo registro con fecha y prioridad (baja, normal, alta). No hay un “automático de fecha” [poder personalizar un día/hora concreto. Ver nota de stimme al final del apartado] para eventos (por ej. durante 14 días).
Calendario:
En el calendario se puede cambiar entre vista de semana y de mes. Con “Nuevo evento” se crea una reunión, una nota, o un “día entero” de evento. Se marca con una pequeña flecha en el campo del día (ver captura calendarview5). La captura calendarview muestra los eventos en la vista de semana. El pequeño símbolo amarillo marca una nota, el símbolo de tarta marca un evento de un día (parece que Sendo usó el símbolo de una tarta para aniversarios, pero yo también lo uso para otros eventos)
Reunión: tema, lugar, hora de inicio y final, fecha de inicio y final, recordatorio, repetición (sin “automático de fecha”, sinó diariamente, semanalmente, cada 2 semanas, mensualmente, anualmente), sincronización (privada, pública, ninguna).

[Nota de Stimme: No estoy seguro de lo que dragon-tmd quiere decir con “automático de fecha” pero creo que se trata de un modo de repetición programable, e.g. durante 5 días, durante 6 horas. Parece que el X no trae esa función. Sin mebargo, hay repeticiones predefinidas => diaramente, semanalmente, cada 2 semanas, mensualmente, anualmente].
SOFTWARE
Aparte de las típicas funciones usuales en Series60 (calendario, mensajes, eventos, etc) el X trae un micrófono independiente para reconocimiento de voz. Gracias a esta gran función puedes seleccionar un contacto con sólo decir el nombre o abrir una aplicación diciendo su nombre. Funciona realmente bien en ambientes tranquilos. Ésta es realmente una gran función y no existe en otros móviles Series60.
[Nota de Stimme: en el foro dragon-tmd y otros describen el reconocimiento de voz con más detalle => activas la función apretando el botón situado en el lado derecho. Entonces un voz (femenina) pide que digas una instrucción, por ejemplo “Llamar” => entonces la voz te pide el nombre => tu le dices nombre y apellido y (si lo reconoce correctamente) la voz te pide “¿Qué número marcar?” (en el caso de que tenga más de un teléfono) => eliges el de casa, el móvil, etc, y el número se marca.
Si no se reconoce el nombre lista todos los contactos similares y pregunta nombre por nombre (tu simplemente tienes que decir sí o no) cuál es el que quieres.
Otra instrucción es “abrir <nombredelaaplicación>” => se abre la aplicación. Esto funciona incluso con las aplicaciones posteriormente! Hay muchas instrucciones para controlar el X sólo con tu voz.
Y el reconocimiento de voz funciona sin grabar tu voz antes (como otros móviles)… e incluso en tu propia lengua! Dragon-tmd describió algunos pequeños problemas al intentar reconocer algunas letras concretas en alemán (Ü,Ö,Ä). Pero en general funciona en alemán con pronunciación alemana. Así que supongo también funcionará en castellano]
Reproductor MP3
El reproductor mp3 incorporado soporta listas de reproducción y es estéreo (altavoces y auriculares).
Añadir canciones desde diferentes directorios funciona correctamente. Puedes grabar archivos mp3 en carpetas (creadas por uno mismo, por ejemplo “MP3”) incluso durante la transmisión desde el PC al X. Pero no es posible renombrar una lista de reproducción creada.
La calidad del sonido de los altavoces es buena. Sin embargo, cortan un poco los agudos de los mp3 y midis. No noté especialmente mejores bajos o calidad de sonido por tener el sistema de sonido SoniX [Stimme: creo que se refiere en comparación con otros móviles sin el sistema SoniX].
La calidad de sonido de los auriculares manos libres estéreo es excelente, el volumén más que suficiente. Como siempre unos bajos “potentes” se echan a faltar. Hay rumores que los auriculares están fabricados por Sennheiser [Stimme Sennheiser es una prestigiosa compañía por tener auriculares de la mejor calidad]. Sin embargo el cable desde el auricular derecho al control de llamadas y volumen es demasiado corto. Este control cuelga a la altura de mi barbilla, una incómoda posición mientras haces deporte

No hay problemas escuchando los mp3 en segundo plano mientras trabajas con otras aplicaciones

RealOnePlayer (version 3.1.240 del 20 de mayo de 2003):
El RealOnePlayer es el estándar Series60. Como esperaba, no soporta películas con bitrates altos (280 kbit). Con mi N-GAGE aún puedo ver esas películas en mala calidad, pero el X ni siquiera las reproduce. Avance rápido, reboninar, etc, es posible, pero en el X no hay modo de pantalla completa.
[sarraceno: entiendo que con el SmartMovie sí que sería a pantalla completa, o casi, por los 12 pixels fijos en la pantalla con el estado de la batería, etc.]
Juegos:
Se incluyen el “Sendo Data Flow Pinball” y el “Funny Farmer”. No me gusta el pinball pero el Funny Farmer es realmente bueno!
El X sólo soporta MIDP 1.1, lo que significa que juegos como Syberian Strile I+II funcionan sin problemas. Se representan con un “símbolo Java” en el mení (no el icono de juego del fabricante). Pero a diferencia de otros Series60 encontrarás los iconos en el menú principal y no en por ej. “Programas” (como la N-GAGE).
CÁMARA/VIDEO
La cámara incorporada no es realmente buena (y personalmente no espero mejoras con nuevas firmwares).
Las imágenes se pueden tomar en calidad baja, normal y alta. También tiene flash y (por primera vez) función “reductor de ojos rojos” y “pre flash-ojos rojos” con preflash desde 1 a 4 veces. El flash es un LED blanco muy brillante. Puedes guardar las imágenes en la memoria del teléfono en la tarjeta de memoria [MMC o SD].
La cámara de vídeo hace grabaciones buenas (fluidas) si hay bastante luz, sin suficiente luz hay parones.
Se pueden grabar vídeos en calidad baja, normal y alta y framerate bajo o alto.
La resolución es tipicamente Series60 y varía desde 128x96 a 176x144. El tamaño del archivo se puede seleccionar entre “10% de memoria libre” e “ilimitado”. Eso significa que no hay límites de 4 o 10 minutos.
[Stimme: necesitarás Quicktime o RealPlayer para ver los vídeos. De todas maneras, hay comentarios en el foro sobre mala calidad de sonido con Quicktime. Sin problemas con RealPlayer].
COMPATIBILIDAD
La primera utilización de las aplicaciones preinstaladas en la tarjeta de memoria fue muy mala. NINGUNA aplicación funcionó! Pondré atención en esto en el futuro. Sin embargo debería quedar claro que las aplicaciones de otros fabricantes funcionarán tras una actualización del fabricante.

CALIDAD DE SONIDO DE VOZ/BATERÍA
La calidad de la voz es mucho mejor comparado con el 6600 y creo que también mejor que en el 7610. Sin embargo no es tan buena como en el 6230. LA cobertura es buena. [Stimme: él comparó diferentes proveedores en Alemania, algunos tienen mejor calidad de cobertura que otros].
De la batería dejadme decir simplemente que: los 1000 ma se portan bien. La batería funciona más tiempo que un 6600 o 7610. Recargué la batería toda la noche (tras probar el X durante horas) y pude trastear 8 horas INTENSIVAMENTE (bluetooth, video, llamadas, mp3 (2,5 horas) con el X.
Al principio el nivel del indicador de la batería funcionaba muy mal (3 horas antes de que la batería estuviese realmente vacía ya decía “batería baja”). Pero tras unos días el usuario tiene como 30 minutos antes de que la batería esté vacía. El aviso se repite periódicamente (con sonido y luz).
Por cierto: cuando recibes una llamada la luz del teclado se ilumina al ritmo.
PANTALLA NOW!
La pantalla Now! es lo que MÁS atrae del X. Aquí tengo la posibilidad de crear mis áreas propias con por ejemplo enlaces (a CADA programa instalado) y funciones. En teoría es posible de saltarse completamente el menú Series60. Yo por ejemplo me creé las áreas de “tiempo libre” y “multimedia”. Aquí tengo enlaces a los juegos y al reproductor mp3 y mis programas gráficos.
Realmente buena es la personalización de salvapantallas propios (para cada área) y 2 temas (combinaciones de colores). No es posible cambiar el color de las softkeys.
Y además NO puedes apagar la pantalla Now!
VISOR DE DOCUMENTOS
Puedes visualizar muchos tipos de documentos con el X. Probé con documentos Word, Excel, PDF y Powerpoint y funcionó bien. Sin embargo es imposible editar los documentos (por eso es un VISUALIZADOR).
¿¿Qué puedo decir?? Toda la espera mereció la pena (y aún la merece)!
El X es un móvil totalmente desarrollado con funciones realmente buenas. La cámara y la calidad de vídeo no es la mejor, hay móviles mejores. Si necesitas un móvil con una buena cámara no te deberías comprar el X.
La calidad de los mp3 es mejor en comparación con el SX1 y casi tan buena como la N-GAGE (de todos modos la N-GAGE tiene mejores bajos y hardware DSP).
EN MI PUNTO DE VISTA: EN ESTE MOMENTO EL X ES EL MEJOR MÓVIL SERIES60 EN EL MERCADO Y NO LO DEVOLVERÉ!

Eso lo tenía yo en mi antiguo Siemens ME45, y era perfecto para mí... snif
En mi 6600 no está y es un rollo tener que poner cada noche el despertador, pero tiene que haber algún programa por ahí... (¿?)

@Jose: Bien possible que dragon-tmd refiere a eso. Voy a preguntar dragon-tmd si puede explicar en mas detalle esa funcion.
